Norwegian Prime Minister encourage the nation to have more children
In Prime Minister of Norway, Erna Solberg’s traditional speech broadcast on New Year’s Day, the Prime Minister addressed the citizens of Norway with the fact that Norway needs more children.
In her introduction to the part discussing the need for more children, the Prime Minister mention her concern about Norway’s low birthrate. In order to maintain the population of today, each woman must give birth to an average of just above two children. Today the figure is 1,6 children. If today’s figure stays at the same level, there will be relatively fewer young people to take responsibility for Norway’s sustainable welfare system.
The Prime Minister further mentioned that today more people in Norway are for various reasons delaying parenthood, which can pose more risk than benefits. Today an increasing number of children are now being born with help from the health service.
