The Success of the ReproUnion facilitated Patient Mobility Agreement

The success in the ReproUnion facilitated Patient Mobility Agreement between Denmark and Sweden may lay the foundation for more bilateral health services between the two neighboring countries.

Last year, the Patient Mobility Agreement enabled childless couple with certain types of involuntary infertility to receive specialized treatment within a field of expertise that is not available in their home country in Malmö and Copenhagen area. Today, 40 Danish and Swedish patients have already made use of the patient mobility agreement.

– The agreement is, beyond being of benefit for the individual patient undergoing fertility treatment, a good example of how patients in both countries can benefit from the cross-border resources available.

States Dr. Jens Sønksen, Professor of Urology at University of Copenhagen and Head of Urological Research Center, Herlev Hospital, Denmark and Chairman of ReproUnion Board.

– In my opinion, the project model of the patient mobility agreement is worth looking further to investigate how we better can use our resources to get the best possible treatment for our patient. In the end, that’s what it’s all about.

Chairman of the Regional Council of Copenhagen, Sophie Hæstorp Andersen also believes that there are great benefits of cooperation with Sweden for both Danish and Swedish patients. Read more here
